Akemashite omedetou gozaimasu!

For our first meeting of the new year, half a dozen of us (excluding, unfortunately, Kris) watched the scheduled episodes of Naruto #83 (in which Jiraiya and Naruto set out on their journey), Pumpkin Scissors #15 (continuing the effort to clean up the sewers — metaphorically speaking), D.Gray-man #15 (concluding the affair of the Leaf of Revival), Bleach #55 (wherein Yoruichi resurfaces, and two captains engage the Captain-General), and Ghost Hunt #15 (featuring the continued and escalating investigation into the haunted school).

Back to a much more typical meeting this time around. Five folks made it, and we ate corn chips and watched the scheduled episodes of Naruto #82 (in which Kakashi and company encounter some strange visiting ninja), Pumpkin Scissors #14 (wherein our heroes attempt to relocate some refugees living in the sewers), D.Gray-man #14(beginning some adventures in the snow), Bleach #54 (in which Ichigo shows up in the nick of time), and Ghost Hunt #14 (starting a new investigation into a haunted high school).

The next meeting would be scheduled for the 29th, but the library will likely be closed this day, so chances are that we won’t meet again until the New Year. Stay tuned to the e-mail list for details, and have a wonderful holiday!

Meeting Report: Dec. 1, 2007

Posted in Meeting Reports at 9:39 pm by Kris

Our latest meeting went a little differently than originally planned; Mark was scheduled to be on a business trip during the meeting, and was kind enough to make a tape of the usual episodes in advance. However, as the best-laid plans oft go awry, I was unable to pick up the tape in time, so we had to spring for another option. While we had a relatively small group (4 in all), we did have one new attendee join us. After offering a variety of options both new and old, including Saiyuki, D.N. Angel, Last Exile, and even The Nightmare Before Christmas, we settled on eps. 1-4 of Peacemaker Kurogane. Apparently it was a real hit, and a continuation may be in the works as part of our next group of series when we finish up some of the current ones in the spring. We also discussed (over chips and candy) the possibility of more frequent meetings and get-togethers. Thanks to all who attended!!

Due to schedule conflicts, we met on a Sunday this time. Five folks made it, and we ate corn chips and watched the scheduled episodes of Naruto #81 (in which Jiraiya is asked to become the next Hokage), Pumpkin Scissors #13 (featuring an adventuresome princess), D.Gray-man #13 (introducing Lavi), Bleach #52-53 (a double episode wherein Renji takes on Kuchiki Byakuya in a Bankai battle), and Ghost Hunt #13 (revealing the fate of Kenji).

We had 6 folks at the meeting, including the long-lost Fred. We consumed leftover Halloween candy and watched the scheduled episodes of Naruto #80 (bidding farewell to the Hokage), Pumpkin Scissors #12 (in which an incriminating manuscript is lost), D.Gray-man #12 (concluding the adventure in the time-looped town), Bleach #51 (showing the captains of the 13 Squads assembling for the execution), and Ghost Hunt #12 (beginning an investigation into possessions at a church).

Once again I’ve been slacking off on reports, so here are the last two meetings.

There were half a dozen folks at the meeting on the 6th. We watched the scheduled episodes of Naruto #78 (in which the fight between Gaara and Naruto heats up, and Naruto gets a little help), Pumpkin Scissors #10 (looking back at the formation of Section III), D.Gray-man #10 (giving some information on Miranda’s history), Bleach #49 (wherein Rukia reviews some events of the past), and Ghost Hunt #10 (concluding the investigation into the haunted school).

On the 20th, there were five of us; Kris brought along some Halloween candy, since this was our last meeting before Trick-Or-Treat time. We considered watching one of Tim Burton’s animated movies, but settled on the scheduled episodes of Naruto #79 (featuring Konoha’s counterattack), Pumpkin Scissors #11 (in which some newspaper coverage for Section III has unfortunate side effects), D.Gray-man #11 (wherein Miranda finally gets a little gratitude), Bleach #50 (providing a peek at what’s going on with Don Kan’onji and friends back in the real world), and Ghost Hunt #11 (a ghost story in a park).

I missed last meeting’s report, but it was a fairly standard meeting (though in a nonstandard room), with five people attending. We watched the scheduled episodes of Naruto #76, Pumpkin Scissors #8, D.Gray-man #8, Bleach #47, and Ghost Hunt #8.

Good turnout today — seven folks showed up, three of whom had made it down to NDK last weekend (well, four counting me). We started a few minutes late, but still had time to watch all the scheduled episodes of Naruto #77 (wherein Naruto attempts to summon the Frog Boss, and we see some more of Gaara’s messed-up childhood), Pumpkin Scissors #9 (in which Oreld takes an interest in a troubled woman), D.Gray-man #9 (featuring a town where it’s always the same day), Bleach #48 (checking in on Ichigo’s progress in learning Bankai), and Ghost Hunt #9 (continuing the search for the culprit who’s placing curses around the school).

This was the club’s five-year anniversary meeting, and we celebrated with pizza, cookies, and soda. Four long-time members showed up, along with four fresh (and young) faces, so it was a bit more lively than usual. We celebrated by watching Miyazaki’s Mononoke Hime (a.k.a. Princess Mononoke) rather than our usual episodes.

We had all five regulars show up today, and once again Kris said there had been some interest from new members, but none appeared. We watched the scheduled episodes of Naruto #75 (featuring the fight between Gaara and Sasuke), Pumpkin Scissors #7 (in which we meet the lieutenant’s fiance), D.Gray-man #7 (shedding some light on Allen’s past), Bleach #46 (with a look back at Renji, Kira, and Hinamori in their school days), and Ghost Hunt #7 (beginning the investigation of a school too haunted to be believed).

Only three folks showed up today, but Kris said she’d received e-mail from some possible new members. We watched the scheduled episodes of Naruto #74 (in which Shino fights Kankuro, and Sasuke catches up to Temari and Gaara), Pumpkin Scissors #6 (featuring an unexpected arrival at headquarters), D.Gray-man #6 (introducing a boy who cries “Akuma”), Bleach #45 (showing Ichigo beginning his attempt to master Bankai), and Ghost Hunt #6 (concluding the investigation of the poltergeist-haunted house).

Four folks at today’s meeting. We watched the scheduled episodes of Naruto #73 (in which the battle between Orochimaru and the Hokage reaches a new level), Pumpkin Scissors #5 (showing that hospitals are not always nice quiet places), D.Gray-man #5 (wrapping up the action at Matel), Bleach #44 (wherein Ishida shows his stuff against the captain of the 12th Squad), and Ghost Hunt #5 (continuing the research around Ayami-chan’s creepy doll Minnie).

Today’s meeting was small, even for us — three attendees, counting myself! Nevertheless, we watched the scheduled episodes of Naruto #72 (featuring a flashback for Orochimaru and the Hokage), Pumpkin Scissors #4 (in which we learn a bit more about Corporal Oland’s old unit), D.Gray-man #4 (wherein we discovered the identity of the Ghost of Matel), Bleach #43 (catching up with Inoue and Ishida), and Ghost Hunt #4 (beginning a new investigation into an apparent poltergeist).

This meeting featured most of the usual suspects, except for Mark, who had to attend an NDK organizational meeting and was kind enough to make a tape of the scheduled episodes for us (Thanks!!)
Episodes shown were: Naruto #71, Pumpkin Scissors #3, D. Gray-man #3, Bleach #42, and Ghost Hunt #3.
The club lunch, by the way, was a rousing success; thanks to those who attended!!! Stay tuned for more details on future get-togethers!

This was a pretty typical meeting, with the usual set of die-hards — including Kris, who brought some goodies!

We watched the scheduled episodes of Naruto #70, Pumpkin Scissors #2, D.Gray-man #2, Bleach #41, and Ghost Hunt #2. I was in a hurry so I didn’t throw in any extras.

After the shows, we decided to meet at 1 PM next Saturday at Noodles & Company for a club lunch. I won’t be able to make it, so bon appetit everybody!

A bit of confusion today, as some film casting outfit was using the conference room, and we were scheduled for meeting room B… but when I went there, the library’s dog reading program was setting up! We finally got settled in the craft room in the children’s area.

We had five folks today, including the triumphant return of Kris — welcome back, Fearless Leader, and thanks for the snacks!

We watched the scheduled episodes of Naruto #69, Pumpkin Scissors #1, D.Gray-man #1, Bleach #40, and Ghost Hunt #1, inaugurating our three new series.

bad news, and a possible alternative…

Hi all,
Unfortunately, scheduling issues have thwarted us again; due to the annual Library book sale, no meeting rooms were available and this weekend’s meeting has therefore been cancelled. The next meeting is officially scheduled for Saturday, May 19. Hope to see you there!
In the meantime, would anyone be interested in getting together for one of our informal club lunches on one of the free weekends? If so, let us know when you’re available and we’ll make arrangements from there…
Thanks!
Kris

Meeting Report: 2007 April 7

Today’s meeting was again small, with only four total attendees. We watched the scheduled episodes of Naruto #68, Full Metal Alchemist #50 and #51, Hikaru no Go #75, and Bleach #39 — thereby wrapping up FMA and HikaGo.

After some discussion, we took a vote on what to watch next. Of the dozen-odd titles we discussed, each of us ranked four in order from most to least desirable. Only four shows received votes from more than one person, and we resolved the third-place tie by the time-honored flip of a coin, resulting in these choices: Pumpkin Scissors, D.Gray-man, and Ghost Hunt. These series will commence at the May 5 meeting (April 21 will be skipped due to StarFest).

Hi all,
our next club meeting is this Saturday, April 7th, from 1:15 to 3:45.
The other April meeting has been cancelled due to a scheduling conflict with Starfest, the annual sci-fi convention in Denver, on April 20-22, in which Mark (our VP, media god, and all-around cool guy) is heavily involved. They have several anime-themed activities available there as well, so those suffering from anime withdrawal would be well advised to attend ;)
Check out their website for more:

Hope to see you there!!!

Meeting Report: 2007 March 24

Today’s meeting was another small one, with only four total attendees. We watched the scheduled episodes of Naruto #66-67 (a double-length episode), Full Metal Alchemist #49, Dogtato-kun #9, Hikaru no Go #74, Ocha-Ken #14, and Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu #14 — the final episode of this excellent series.

Next time we’ll double up on Full Metal Alchemist, wrapping up that series and HikaGo, and picking three replacements. The meeting after that coincides with StarFest, so I’ll be unable to attend; the new shows will start on the subsequent meeting.

Meeting Report: 2007 March 10

A very well-attended meeting last weekend, with nine folks total in attendance, including a couple of visitors from out of town. We watched the scheduled episodes of Naruto #65, Full Metal Alchemist #48, Dogtato-kun #8, Hikaru no Go #73, Bleach #38, Ocha-Ken #13, and Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu #13.

Next time we’ll have a double-length episode of Naruto, so we’ll omit Bleach so as to stay on track with the other series.
