Meeting Report: 2007 Feb 24

Posted in Meeting Reports at 10:47 pm by mark

A decently-sized meeting today, with six folks total in attendance.  We watched the scheduled episodes of Naruto #64, Full Metal Alchemist #47, Hikaru no Go #72, Bleach #37, and Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu #12. I also tossed in episode 7 of Dogtato-kun and #12 of Ocha-Ken, neither of which we’d seen in a while.

At the end of the meeting, I mentioned that after three more meetings, we’ll be ready to choose three new series, and we all discussed some possibilities.  I asked folks to think about it, since we won’t need to decide for a couple of months yet, assuming we skip the April 21 meeting due to StarFest.

Next month’s meetings have been confirmed for March 10 and March 24.

Hi all,
unfortunately, due to scheduling issues, we were unable to reserve a space for either Saturday or Sunday this week, so this week’s meeting will be cancelled. Thankfully we will be back to normal next time (insofar as we qualify as normal ;) and our next definite meeting will be Saturday, Feb. 24. Hope to see you all there!!!

Kris has warned me that the next meeting may be on Sunday the 28th rather than Saturday the 27th — check the mailing list for the announcement!

Perhaps it was the late-minute schedule change, but only three of us made it to Sunday’s meeting. Nevertheless, we watched the scheduled episodes of Naruto #60, Full Metal Alchemist #43, Damekko Doubutsu #22, Hikaru no Go #68, Bleach #33, and Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu #8. See you in a couple of weeks, and have a good Thanksgiving!

Next meeting is scheduled for the 18th of November, but there’s a possibility it will need to be rescheduled due to library activities. Stay tuned to the e-mail list, and if you’re not on the e-mail list, contact me to be added!

Another small meeting today, with the four die-hards (Kris, Rob, Fred, and myself) — it may be time to go on a recruiting drive! We watched the scheduled episodes of Naruto #58, Full Metal Alchemist #41, Damekko Doubutsu #20, Hikaru no Go #66, Bleach #31, and Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu #6.

Next meeting will be on the 4th of November.

A typically small meeting today; five folks showed up. We watched the scheduled episodes of Naruto #57, Full Metal Alchemist #40, Damekko Doubutsu #18, Hikaru no Go #65, Bleach #30, and Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu #5.

Two weeks from today, Nan Desu Kan will be under way in Denver, so there will be no meeting; next meeting will be two weeks later, October 21. See you then!

A small meeting today, with only four of us (Kris, Rob, Fred, and myself). We watched the scheduled episodes of Naruto #56, Full Metal Alchemist #39, Damekko Doubutsu #17, Hikaru no Go #64, Bleach #29, and Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu #4.

We’ll retain the Saturday schedule for the time being, so I’ll see you in two weeks!

Meeting Report: 2006 August 26

There was no meeting on the 12th, since neither Kris nor I could attend.

The 26th was the anniversary meeting of the club, which is now four years old! Kris provided pizza, but only half a dozen folks were in attendance. I let the membership decide what we would watch, and it was decided to watch a couple of episodes of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu, specifically episodes 2 and 3, followed by Dragon Half. Unfortunately, my laptop’s DVD player declined to cooperate on Dragon Half. (Fortunately, it turned out later just to need a reboot, and the disc itself is fine.) So we ended up watching Naruto #55 and Bleach #28 to round out the meeting.

Regular schedule will resume with the next meeting, on September 9!

Meeting report: 2006 July 29

Today’s meeting was typical of this summer, with half a dozen folks total in attendance. We watched the scheduled episodes of Naruto #54, Full Metal Alchemist #38, Damekko Doubutsu #16, Hikaru no Go #63, Bleach #27, and Galaxy Angel III #51-52, which wrapped up the season with a full half-hour story. It’s been suggested that we continue with Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu, since it’s an excellent series, yet is only 14 episodes, meaning it would wrap up around the same time as Full Metal Alchemist and Hikaru no Go. At that point we would decide on all sorts of new shows!

Send your thoughts to Kris or to me.

Another relatively light meeting today; other than myself, four folks showed up. Still better than last time, though! We watched the scheduled episodes of Naruto #53, Full Metal Alchemist #37, Damekko Doubutsu #15, Hikaru no Go #62, Bleach #26, and Galaxy Angel III #49-50 — only one episode to go on that series.

Today’s meeting was canceled for non-attendance. By 2 PM, the only other person to show up was Rob, and we agreed that it didn’t make sense to show all the episodes to just him, so I put a sign on the door and we left.

I hope to see some more folks at the July 15 meeting!

Meeting report: 2006 June 17

A relatively light meeting today; other than myself, four folks showed up. I offered the crowd the choice between watching the regularly-scheduled episodes or the latest Miyazaki film, Howl’s Moving Castle; the decision was for the episodes. Therefore, we watched Naruto #52, Full Metal Alchemist #36, Damekko Doubutsu #14, Hikaru no Go #61, and Bleach #25. Due to a miscalculation on my part, I didn’t have the next Galaxy Angel episode handy, so instead I showed episode 1 (0? long story) of a new series called Suzumiya Harui no Yuutsu (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya), which I would personally recommend as the replacement series for Galaxy Angel after the final couple of episodes.

Our first Saturday meeting for the summer! I counted 8 folks in attendance, including me. We watched the regularly-scheduled episodes of Naruto #51, Full Metal Alchemist #35, Hikaru no Go #60, Damekko Doubutsu #13, Bleach #24, and Galaxy Angel III #47-48. Plus, I tossed in episode 12 of Ocha-Ken, which we hadn’t watched in a while.

First meeting I’ve managed to get to in a while! Six people showed up in all, and I was able to show today’s episodes with a projector rather than the monitor. We watched the regularly-scheduled episodes of Naruto #50, Full Metal Alchemist #34, Hikaru no Go #59, Damekko Doubutsu #12, Bleach #23, and Galaxy Angel III #45-46.

After the episodes, Kris opened a discussion as to whether folks are still enjoying the shows, and in general they are. There are three more episodes in this season of Galaxy Angel, so if we want to make a change, that could be a good opportunity. At our current pace, Hikaru no Go and Full Metal Alchemist will both end in approximately 10 months, while Naruto and Bleach are still in production, so we can watch those pretty much as long as we like.

Note that after Memorial Day, the library will be closed on Sundays, so we’ll shift to our summer schedule of every other Saturday — same time. So our next meeting will be Saturday, June 3, at 1:15 PM. See you there!

Meeting Reports for April 2006

Posted in Meeting Reports at 10:40 pm by Kris

To round out the missing reports, here are the ones for April:
Our first April meeting, April 2, had three attendees; myself, Robert and Jessie, who all settled down to watch the tape of our usual eps, featuring Naruto #48, Full Metal Alchemist #32, Hikaru no Go #57, Damekko Doubutsu #10, Bleach #21, and Galaxy Angel III #41-42, along with a brief and haunting Miyizaki-esque short.

Our next meeting would have fallen on Easter Sunday, so it was pushed back a week to April 23, which coincided with Starfest, the sci-fi con in Denver. Since Mark is one of the con’s organizers, we put the other tape he made to good use and enjoyed Naruto #49, Full Metal Alchemist #33, Hikaru no Go #58, Damekko Doubutsu #11, Bleach #22, and Galaxy Angel III #43-44. Attendance picked up again with about 6 people.

Thus concludes our lapse in meeting reports; keep an eye out for announcements about new activities and shows through the spring and summer!!!

Meeting reports for March 2006

Posted in Meeting Reports at 10:40 pm by Kris

March had its highs and lows for the club. Our first meeting in March, Mar.5, was one of our “and now for something completely different ” meetings. Mark has been involved in an ongoing research project and was unable to attend; thus we eschewed our usual schedule and spent the day talking, drawing, trading cosplay tips and listening to music. This was one of our best-attended meetings in a while with at least 8 or 9 people (Yay!)
Our March 19 meeting(or lack of meeting) was exactly the opposite; coming armed with tapes of the eps courtesy of Mark, I waited for close to a half-hour with only one member(Robert) appearing. Eventually I decided to cancel the meeting and save the eps for future viewing with a larger audience. Reports of an impending snowstorm and Spring Break may have been factors for the lack of attendance.

Meeting reports for February 2006

Posted in Meeting Reports at 10:39 pm by Kris

Hi all!!! (yes, we’re still here!!!) Been a while since either Mark or myself have posted meeting reports, so it’s high time that’s taken care of. Our meeting Feb. 5 was initially up in the air due to the Super Bowl, but we ended up holding it anyway. Attendance was fairly good with about 7 members (shows we’re not exactly football fans, doesn’t it? or maybe just since the Broncos weren’t playing…) and we enjoyed our usual fare of Naruto #47, Fullmetal Alchemist #31, Hikaru no Go #56, Damekko Doubutsu #9, Bleach #20, and Galaxy Angel III #39-40.

Our other February meeting, on the 19th was extremely quiet. With only Mark and myself initially, we chose to watch a random selection of shows, starting with the first episode of a new series called Mushishi; different but intriguing. Afterward being in the mood for a little Hikago and Bleach action, we watched Hikaru no Go #57 and Bleach #21, along with an interesting little parody of the AMV-making process featuring footage from Cowboy Bebop and music by Perry Como and the Squirrel Nut Zippers(!?!) We adjourned early, unfortunately just before a couple of members appeared…Sorry, folks.
(Never fear, the Bleach and Hikago eps were repeated on April 2, and the CB amv on Apr. 23.)
