Report on July 31 and August 14 meetings

Posted in Meeting Reports at 7:21 pm by mark

At the July 31 meeting, Naruto #19, Full Metal Alchemist #5, Hikaru no Go #29, Scrapped Princess #17, and Galaxy Angel II #7-8 were shown as scheduled. I also snuck in the first episodes of Panda-Z and Dogtato, two more short (5-minute) series I’ve come across. We had a few new members at this meeting, which was nice.

The August 14 meeting was held earlier than usual, at 11:00. For a change I thought to take notes, so I can include some episode summaries. We watched Naruto #20, Full Metal Alchemist #6, Hikaru no Go #30, Scrapped Princess #18, and Galaxy Angel II #9-10, plus the second and third episodes of Panda-Z.

Episode summaries below.

Naruto #20: This is the first episode of the next big storyline. Our heroes are doing some simple, boring missions, and Naruto and Sasuke are frustrated that they’re not improving their skills, while Sakura is shocked when Sasuke accuses her of being worse than Naruto. They are surprised to run into three unknown Genin (low-level ninja) from a different country, and there is almost a fight. Meanwhile, the Hokage announces to the other Jounin (high-level ninja) that in one week, the exam will take place to select the new Chuunin (mid-level ninja).

Panda-Z #2: Batteries are not food!

Full Metal Alchemist #6: Ed and Al prepare for the State Alchemist exam at the home of an alchemist named Shou Tucker. Major Hughes invites them to a birthday party for Ed, but as a blizzard falls, Major Hughes’s wife goes into labor; the birth goes well but Ed and Al feel like they were helpless. The exam day comes, and both Ed and Al pass the written portion; Lt. Col. Mustang convinces Al not to continue to the interview portion, which Ed passes. During the final portion, the practical, Ed saves another examinee by doing alchemy without even a transmutation circle, and he passes the exam.

Hikaru no Go #30: Hikaru lets Sai play Kadowaki, who has arrived for the pro exam; when Sai beats him soundly, Kadowaki resolves to train for another year before taking the exam. Kuwabara defends the title of Honinbou against Ogata. Hikaru arrives for the preliminary match of the pro exam.

Panda-Z #3: Rocket punch!

Scrapped Princess #18: The Leinwan military is closing in on Pacifica (still without her memory, and calling herself Pamela). At the advice of the minstrel, Pacifica, Leo, Winia, and Fulle leave the city in disguise, heading for the Mauser holy city of Grendel (where Leinwan has less power). Leo and Fulle return for horses but are chased. Fulle stays behind, giving his life so that Leo can escape with the horses, but Leo and Pacifica and Winia are captured anyway by the Obstinate Arrow.

Galaxy Angel II #9-10: The Angel Unit are… robbers? Then… don’t mess with Nomad!
