Report on September 12 Meeting
At the September 12 meeting, as scheduled, we watched Naruto #21, Full Metal Alchemist #7, Hikaru no Go #31, Scrapped Princess #19, and Galaxy Angel II #11-12, plus episodes 6 and 7 of Panda-Z. (Summaries below.)
Next meeting will be Sunday, September 26. Winter meetings will remain on Sundays, as that conflicts less with several members’ extra-curricular activities schedules.
Naruto #21: Ninja from many other villages are coming to Konoha for the Chuunin selection exam. All 9 Konoha rookies are recommended for the exam; this concerns Iruka, who doesn’t think they’re ready, so the Hokage agrees to subject them to a preliminary test. They all pass.
Panda-Z #6: Telephones are handy!
Full Metal Alchemist #7: Tucker needs to pass an assessment to keep his rank and salary. Ed tries to find out more about the talking chimera Tucker had once created, but comes up blank. He tries to learn more from Hughes. While they talk, a serial murderer claims his fifth female victim. When he sees the body, Ed suffers flashbacks to his mother. Ed and Al find Tucker just as he completes a new speaking chimera… by merging his dog and his own daughter! Then things get really ugly…
Hikaru no Go #31: The preliminaries for the pro exam begin, and Hikaru gets paired with a big hairy loud scary biker guy. After Hikaru’s first move, the biker guy gets up and disappears for half an hour. Then, at lunchtime, the biker takes Hikaru out for lunch and works on Hikaru’s fears. Demoralized, Hikaru loses this first match.
Panda-Z #7: So, about that plan to capture Panda-Z…
Scrapped Princess #19: This was a very complicated episode. Leo, Winia, and Raquel try to find out what happened to Pacifica. Shannon is approached by General Peters-Stahl, who tries to recruit Shannon to help conquer the world. Prince Forcis, Pacifica’s brother, is sent to the Holy City. And Pacifica, still suffering from amnesia and calling herself Pamela, is thrown into a cell, where she gets to know the woman in the next cell. That woman has been tortured, and asks “Pamela” to call her “mother” once before she dies.
Galaxy Angel II #11-12: The first part of the episode was “Freaky Friday in Space” as the Angel Team wakes up… in each others’ bodies! The second part was an uncharacteristically serious episode, as Wolcott and Forte search for “the Silent Soldier.”
