Report on September 26 meeting

Posted in Meeting Reports at 4:41 pm by mark

At the September 26 meeting, as scheduled, we watched Naruto #22, Full Metal Alchemist #8, Hikaru no Go #32, Scrapped Princess #20, and Galaxy Angel II #13-14, plus episode 8 of Panda-Z, episode 3 of Dogtato, and the first episode of another short, Sweet Valerian. (Summaries below.)

Naruto #22: Rock Lee challenges Sasuke to a fight — and cleans his clock. Then Lee’s teacher, Guy, shows up to stop the fight. Sasuke observes that the Chuunin Exam is getting interesting.

Dogtato #3: Where are the beanbirds going?

Full Metal Alchemist #8: Lt. Col. Mustang confronts Ed and warns him he’ll see worse things if he continues down his chosen path. Ed is assigned to take over the research of Tucker, who has been executed for his crimes. Ed refuses and resigns to search for Nina’s killer on his own. Al follows up on some references to the Philosopher’s Stone. The brothers’ old friend Winry shows up to visit, but gets distracted by a refrigerated delivery truck, whose driver turns out to be the serial killer, a man disguising himself as a woman. Ed finds them and fights with the murderer, and is stopped by Al (who arrives with the authorities) just before he kills the murderer. Ed agrees to go back to working for Mustang if Mustang agrees to share all information related to the Philosopher’s Stone, and he is given the name “Full Metal.”

Sweet Valerian #1: The introduction of Relaxation Team Valerian, fighting stress in Asialand City!

Hikaru no Go #32: Hikaru is still rattled from his first day’s loss, and resigns his second game. One more loss and he’ll fail the prelims. He arrives as late as possible on the third day to avoid the scary biker guy; he finally gets a win, against Fuku. On the next day, the biker guy is gone, and Hikaru gets a second win; on the last day of the prelims, only 5 people are left, and by the luck of the draw, Hikaru gets no opponent and wins by default, moving on to the main exam. Sai tells him he’s actually unlucky, and that he needs to play as much as possible, so Hikaru resolves to train before the main exam.

Panda-Z #8: Rescue orders – rainy weather plan!

Scrapped Princess #20: As Pacifica is brought before her father, the King, General Peters-Stahl makes his proposal to the Peacemakers Cz and Steyr, asking their support in conquering the world. Steyr responds that the Peacemakers will “reset” humanity by “thinning” 90% of the population. The King orders Pacifica killed, but Shannon defends her, and she regains her memory. Pacifica is imprisoned rather than killed, as Steyr begins destroying the capital. Shannon decides to trust Zefiris, and they fuse into the complete form of the Dragoon to fight the Peacemakers, just as Seness arrives with three machines called “Gigas” to join the fight.

Galaxy Angel II #13: The Angel Team defeats a huge galaxy eater… or do they? #14: Nomad gets kidnapped — but don’t mess with Vanilla!
